Mainstay operates a fleet of 23 U.S.-flagged vessels, including 16 self-unloading bulk carriers and 2 tug-barge units, with safety as our top priority. In addition, Mainstay manages 5 specialty carriers, including 1 self-propelled vessel and 4 tug-barge units. Over the course of each season, our fleet travels more than 337,000 miles across the Great Lakes and employs over 825 people.
Mainstay is a market leader in the Class I and River Class vessel segment and is the only carrier able to offer significant scale and vessel diversity on the Great Lakes. The Company’s vessels operate under the U.S. Jones Act—which reserves domestic waterborne commerce to vessels that are U.S. owned, built and crewed.
We take pride in our world class safety record, exemplary maritime and technical expertise, and the unmatched efficiency and flexibility of our operations. Boat watchers travel miles to view the ships in operation, since many of the vessels have a unique history within the Great Lakes maritime industry.
